peatsawtimber framing began last weekend with a flurry of framing squares, pencils, tape measures, chisels, saws under the newly erected tent city over the road below the kitchen site. michel, dhamiboo, peat and jason got the tarps up just in the nick of time. we were able to work right through ernesto. a little more light would be nice on cloudly days. we're going to look into an inexpensive 12-volt solar kit.
we began by cutting the 45-degree pieces of the frame called braces that keep the frame from racking. these are good starter practice pieces. next we'll move on to cutting the posts and later the beams. we made good progess. we roughed out ten braces and completed five in two days.
in the picture peat prepares to cut a shoulder on one of the braces.
