timbers-1-thumbnailThe sawmilling went great!  Between six and eight of us helped McKim the sawyer mill about 55 logs down into dimensioned lumber, from various sizes of 1x's to a massive 6x12 (under Michel's elbow in the photograph).  Never seen a portable sawmill?  Imagine an eight foot bandsaw on rails with claws to get the logs onto the rails and various hydraulic and chain operated dohickeys to maneuver the logs around.

It was hard work, but a lot of fun as a group.  The scraps are in piles in the parking lot: arty looking wedge pieces, bark edges, ribbons and veneers, and molding.  And the useable stuff is stacked to dry out a bit.

In front of Michel are a stack of 8x8 posts which will be the posts in the kitchen.

We now have about half of the lumber we need to build the kitchen.  Congratulations!

Take a look at the Design Blog for more pictures and a movie!
