We have mailed out our annual fundraising letter and construction report.

November 2007

Dear Faerie Friend,

Put your hands together and give yourself a round of applause! Thanks to your continued financial support, dedication to working with your hands, and most of all, love, there is a glorious kitchen looking over our meadow! It's got walls, roof, a door and a floor. Yep, it's almost done. Oh no! Wait! Not quite – there’s a lot we still have to do – install the clerestory windows, build the porch and fit up the inside. While our kitchen has beautiful local straw-bale and clay walls, hand planed and chiseled beams and a delicious high ceiling with exposed rafters, we spent the last of the beans on cedar to line the drag closets. (Just kidding!)

For those of you out there who might need catch up, Faerie Camp Destiny was founded in 1997 as a sanctuary and community, which welcomes and respects all caring people. You are getting this letter because you have either been to Destiny or to one of our many annual events thrown by faeries around the region. Destiny is the only Faerie sanctuary in the Northeast. We have grown from our humble beginnings consisting of not much more then a port-a-potty in the woods to currently attracting 600 visitors each year. We hold four annual gatherings and many work weekends and workshops.

We do not charge for use of the sanctuary and are totally dependent on donations to keep Destiny going.

Destiny just keeps growing. Our mountain sanctuary is blooming like the wildflowers sprinkled in the meadow. The fruits (and vegetables) of our loving labor feed us all in many ways. Your gift, no matter how small or large, ensures the legacy of Destiny for the future.

While we are frugal and steward our community’s resources with great care, the operating costs for Destiny grow along with our sanctuary. We expect next year’s operating expenses to amount to $42,000, which is about $120.00 every day. Can you help support your Sanctuary by sponsoring a day, a week, a month or even just a lunch at Destiny?

There is so much to say about this year's work – hundreds of hours of sweat, lifting, sawing, measuring, nailing and drilling resulting in the kitchen building with a porch, plumbing for the future bath house, a foundation for our future dining hall– that we simply cannot even begin to encompass the accomplishments of the past year in this letter. (In fact, it's a whole separate report in this mailing.)

Everyone who comes to the sanctuary contributes by working, singing, cleaning up and sharing their love. There would be no community and no real reason to come to the land without these wonderful contributions. They are invaluable. Money is just another form of support for Destiny, but it is essential. Please consider helping sustain and build the sanctuary with a gift of $50, $100, $1000, $5000, etc.

Regular monthly donations help keep Destiny's operations smooth. Donations automatically withdrawn from your bank account are best. The bills keep coming in year round. The forms to set up automatic withdrawals and to make other forms of contributions are included with this letter. Many faeries who are contributing monthly report a feeling of gratitude and satisfaction when they see their monthly contribution on their bank statements. We urge you to consider joining this group of monthly sustainers.

Destiny’s community of loving faeries has done wonderful things for years. With everyone contributing we will be able to pay our bills and build for the future so that generations to come will continue to enjoy sanctuary and community at Destiny.

Thank you so much for your support,

for the Circle of Destiny

PS: Thank you so much for your generous contributions to our operating expenses. Could you also consider sending in a special contribution to support our capital costs? The building projects at Destiny have cost about $130,000 so far. We’ve paid about half of those expenses in cash raised from our community but we need to keep raising money to complete the project and pay off our debt to our generous Faerie creditors.

Here’s one way to help – Destiny’s buildings are green projects and we need help to purchase energy-efficient windows to keep us warm in the spring and fall and cool in the summer. That's right – we’ll have a small carbon footprint and be warm enough to eat dinner naked in May and October! Each window costs $250. The kitchen has 13 windows. We've done the math for you.

$3250 Let there be light! – buy all thirteen
$500 FABULOUS! Get a load of the view – buy two windows
$250 Behold drag queens parading across the meadow – buy a whole one
$125 Watch the grass grow or bees fly by—buy half a window
$83 A slice of heaven – buy a third of a window
$___ I'll buy as much or as little as I want, honey.

Please consider adding a “window donation” to your end of the year contribution.

Thank you so much for everything you have done to support building sanctuary at Destiny!
